Each class or art therapy session focuses on various technique such as painting, drawing, mixed-media, sculpture, decorative wall techniques, silk painting, papier mache', mosaicing and more. I call this the art sampler. As students discover what they enjoy the most, they can begin focusing on that technique. Art history and multi-cultural art are introduced along the way to stimulate creativity and imagination. All participants are encouraged in developing their personal images as well.Elanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06557025004722937100noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3312906317888255763.post-21478936383288412722010-09-29T01:17:00.001-07:002011-02-01T04:20:39.857-08:00Private and Semi-private Art LessonsPrivate and semi-private art lessons are often formed for special projects, such as getting a portfolio together for acceptance to an art studies program or just for fun. All lessons are designed specifically with one's artistic needs in mind. As with all lessons, we will use an array of studio materials and explore a range of themes as we give play to all our natural senses.Elanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06557025004722937100noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3312906317888255763.post-83756414041066140922010-09-29T01:16:00.001-07:002011-02-01T03:39:46.709-08:00Parent Child Art LessonsAt last, an opportunity to spend creative, quality time together in an art setting. At times a parent or grandparent wants to have time with their child/grandchild and share a special time together, especially during school vacation times, by creating an art piece. These lessons are individually designed... ranging from a one time experience to meeting on a weekly basis. These art experiences will provide an opportunity to do projects which might otherwise be overwhelming on your own. Rediscover the wonder of the visual world with your child or grandchild!Elanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06557025004722937100noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3312906317888255763.post-53073109859910588182010-09-29T01:15:00.001-07:002011-02-01T03:28:17.378-08:00Group Art LessonsArt groups are small, and size varies between two and six students. I have a few baskets of wood scraps that I keep filled. I keep wood glue on hand, which dries quicker than regular white glue, and a base piece of wood to work on. The topic follows kids imaginations.

Art Techniques: 3-d collage or sculpture
Grades: Kg - 12
Ages: 4 - adult

About this project:
A nice book to refer to is Beautiful Stuff! Learning with Found Materials by Cathy Weisman Topal and Lella Gandini.

Materials needed:
• Box of scrap wood
• Sandpaper
• White glue, or wood glue (wood glue dries faster)
• A large flat piece of wood to build on top of (optional)
• Small hand saw, hammer and nails
• Masking tape
• Acrylic paint in the primary colors, white and black
• Paint brushes and container water
• Paper towels
• Varnish (optional)
• Larger, thin pieces of wood to use as a base for the project
• Newspaper to cover the working surface

Directions :
This project can be divided into three sessions.

Session 1
• Empty wood scraps on center of work space.
• Have one bottle of glue for each student and one large piece of wood per student to use as a base.
• I begin by asking students to play with the wood and make different arrangements. I might play music in the background. Once they like what they see, they can glue the pieces in place, or nail them.

Session 2:
• When the pieces are firmly set, students may paint their project.

Session 3:
• Varnish the art piece.

Art Therapy Ideas:
An excellent book to refer to is: The Art of Art Therapy, by Judith Rubin. Once the art piece is assembled, I would take turns creating a story with young children, or encouraging older children to make one up by themselves. This art piece can also become part of a painting or drawing. If you have any small plastic people, a drama can be enacted on your art piece. Another sculpture can be made as well.Elanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06557025004722937100noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3312906317888255763.post-47660184674809945322008-11-07T05:02:00.000-08:002010-09-29T00:32:31.636-07:00Baby Beluga Collage Art Project Lesson PlanArt Techniques: Paper collage and drawing

This paper collage art project is wonderful to do while listening to Raffi’s song: Baby Beluga. This mosaic brought the community together the week before a youth wing was dedicated in Tamar’s honor. Years later, participants in this project walk past it and point to the area they worked on. Tamar’s family also felt the love that went into this piece of work. Laying each glass piece was therapeutic.

A book I recommend for children is
When Someone very Special dies - Children can Learn to Cope with Grief by Marge Heegaard. Students can use their imaginations regarding an adventure, where the adventurers are going and what happens to them along the way. Who do they encounter? What is the weather like? What part is fun and what part is scary? Who would they like to take along with them on the adventure? I like to write down the stories they come up with. The house might represent the child’s home or the child’s school. After it’s fired, I place it on a large rectangle of cardboard (30 x 50cm) and begin creating the environment around the house: garden, trees, a path, street, add play cars and little people made of foam. Slowly we act through different scenarios that I know are part of the child’s life. If the house is built with a door that is in the open position, we decorate the inside with a carpet, table and chairs, and pictures on the wall. There seems to be a satisfying feeling that goes along with building one’s environment. Many of you are art educators looking for interesting lesson plans to do with your students. Others are art therapists, thinking about what direction to go with your clients. In both cases, the magic of the moment is there. The magic where creativity takes place… and something new is created that wasn't there before. In both situations, be it teaching or art therapy, I encourage and guide clients in finding their personal images and developing them.Free Art lesson planshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16331460051939344133noreply@blogger.com0
